Having Fun with Multimedia at the Musée de l’Homme, Paris

As I said in my previous post, I recently went to the Musée de l’Homme to visit the exhibition Déclarations. However, the exhibition was quite small, so I went on visiting the permanent exhibition afterwards. I think the last time I visited this museum was when I was a kid, with my parents, sometime between 5 and 10 years old… I had no memory of it. Moreover, they entirely redesigned it: the new version opened in 2015 (after more than ten years being closed). I didn’t visit it thoroughly. I just walked around, stopping at what I was attracted to…

Sebastião Salgado to Celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Seventy years ago, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly. It happened in Paris, at the Palais de Chaillot, just in front of the Musée de l’Homme, which today, decided to celebrate the anniversary. The exhibition Déclarations showcases thirty photographs by Sebastião Salgado put in correlation with some of the Declaration’s articles. Showcasing M. Salgado’s work in relation to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is not just a nice idea, it’s also very smart. In addition to being a well-known journalistic photographer, he is an environmental activist who has been fighting to…

Cités Millénaires @ Institut du Monde Arabe, Paris: When Visuals are Enough

Generally interested in audiovisual installations, I was very excited to visit Cités Millénaires at the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris described as an immersive experience on millenary cities. Palmyre, Alep, Mossoul and Leptis Magna: four cities which, despite the incredible heritage they hold, have been disfigured by the effects of the war. These four names resonate with the beauties of the Arab world but also with the consequences of its recent history. Cités Millénaires proposes a virtual journey into these cities, resurrected for the occasion. Four cities, four spaces; each one of them arranged in the same way: a big room with a wall projection…

What are the exhibitions to see in Paris in December 2018?

I will be in Paris in December and I am starting to check what exhibitions there will be in the city this winter. My passion for exhibitions brought me to the job I do today. Going back to a city like Paris is very exciting: there’s more exhibitions that there’s time to see. However, in my memories, Paris’ exhibition scene is amazing content-wise, it is not design-wise, the exhibitions being mostly traditional looking, compared, for instance, to a city like London. Plus, the art scene exhibitions is very important, which is amazing but gives less space to history and science…
